It’s ok but used to be a lot better before the trust

For context I am a year 11 student and have attended this school since year 7.
The school has been very much up and down during my time here. With a new head teacher almost every year and a crazy turn over of teachers. The school was reaching its overalll peak until the head teacher disappeared overnight and most the teachers left last year. There was an extreme lack of communication with new staff members who didn’t teach anyone coming walking around the school and telling people off with no explanation of who they where or what there jobs where. After we finally got a head teacher, she gave a strong assembly about what she was here for which had good messages to an extent but then she began telling us that it doesn’t matter if she is liked or nice, only the grades the school produces which (if where honest) seems to be the trend of schools being taken over by a trust. This has a very big negative impact on students that isn’t shown straight away so they don’t seem to care. It manifests into mental health struggles and obsessions over grades. Especially as a student who has just started year 11,this will affect my year the most who already have it hard with missed learning time and will see the affects of a lack of community and emotional support given by the school.
As probably shown by my spelling and grammar ability in this, you can probably tell that I’m not an academic and from my perspective, the teachers are either nice and bad at teaching or arrogant and good at teaching. I only know a very limited number of teachers that I can see don’t hate there job, teach well, and don’t show extreme arrogance.
Examples:
One teacher who is brilliant at teaching, made us wear a mask continuously even during the hottest day of the year because of her own health problems. This wouldn’t be so much of an issue on its own during the covid peak, however, the teacher proceeded to give a long list of situations that we need to wear a mask (despite it not being a legal requirement and not during the covid peak). This includes: feeling nauseous, someone in your family feeling nauseous, having a cold and so on. But still doesn’t let us drink out of her bottle in her classroom. It just shows pure arrogance and if she feels so afraid, then she shouldn’t teach and the school don’t do anything about it.

So to the food. It’s pretty bad. I mean it tastes good for the most part and has massively improved during my time here but it’s all drenched in oil or filled with sugar. They have one basket of fruit that is moldy and I have found spiders and mold in fruit cups. No salads at all and very very limited options for people with dietary requirements such as lactose intolerance or being vegan or vegetarian. Also the prices are shocking. By the time you get into the canteen, all the food is gone.

Some positives are that it is improving. And they have added some seasonal stuff like ice creams in summer.

The school over all has loads of problems and has gotten a lot worse with the take over of the trust but they are tackling bullying and some new nice staff members have come through. But again, we need more good teachers aswell as nice ones. Especially for year 11.
They are tacking litter. But all the positives are things that where even better before the trust took over
I guess the sporting facilities are good. But with the school still having the old fashioned style separations between the ‘popular girls’ and everyone else and the ‘popular girls’ beinh horrible especially in PE, it overtakes the good resources.

bad bad

this school is rubbish, whenever i go to student support for feeling sick the normal answer is either "go back to class and have a drink" or they tell me they need to see me be sick. I have been told on multiple occasions that in order for them to phone my mum they have to see me be sick.
I wouldnt be suprised if those women were here for the pay.

not worth it

this school is horrible. i regret having to go here for so many reasons. for one the bullying is horrendous, rascism, homophobia, ect. in the time i spent in this school i have personally been hate crimed several times and witnessed several other people be so aswell and yet the teachers never seem to worry about it unless you threaten to go above them and report it to a higher up in wich case they will say they will look into it. school food is not that great with very few items for vegetarian and vegan students. ultimately do not send your kids here its really not worth it unless you want your kid dead by the age of 20 with the way you get treated here

Don't go here!!!

If you care about your kid, I would not advise to send them here. Reports of bullying and homophobia are hardly ever dealt with. Students vaping all the time. You're kid will not be able to feel like their problem matters thanks to the "wellbeing" team.

Terrible and Unfriendly!

After reading through all the other reviews of this school I am certainly not surprised of how negative they are. I have now left Year 11 so I thought i'd make a truthful and honest review about this school.

1. This school has a hate crime problem. Many of the students at this school are homophobic and racist. The horrible comments that my friends and I hear at this school are horrendous and the teachers don't do anything about it. In fact they fail to do anything about this school which leads me onto my next point.

2. The teachers here at this school are awful. If a student misbehaves in class they are only given a warning, and then another and are then sent out. But how is that a punishment? Being sent out of class and not doing any work down in isolation seems to be good especially for the kids who don't want to learn and want to disrupt the class.

The teachers here don't do anything about bullying. I was bullied for almost 2 years and ended up going down to BST (Behavioral Support Team) 4 times! And even after that it didn't stop. There are a couple of nice teachers who know how to deal with misbehaved students and know how to properly teach a class, however they are rare to see. There are a few female sexist teachers at this school who still work there. Included are paedophillic teachers. Fortunately most have been fired or have left but I am certain there are still a few left.

3. The student support team are completely useless. They fail to help any students and are simply here for the money. One time when masks were mandatory in lessons I had to go and borrow one as I accidentally left mine at home. When I asked for one they started having a go at me and saying that what I did was "Irresponsible" and "Selfish".

4. The food sold at the canteen here really isn't great at all. One time last year a friend of mine brought a chicken burger only to find it was half cooked and most of it was pink. There are a few vegetarian and vegan foods but you'll seriously be limited of what you can eat. Half of the ladies that work at the canteen are nice but the other half just look down right miserable and unfriendly.

5. The entire school site is a dump. Litter scatters the floors on the playing fields, corridors, canteen and even a few of the classrooms. Some teachers (including the principal) do go round and litter-pick which is nice to see, however this doesn't stop the issue. It goes to show they are aware of the issue but don't want to put 100% of effort into solving it.

The equipment used in this school is extremely poor quality. The computers are old (some broken). The textbooks are ripped, ruined and are drawn all over. The school always act like they have money but they really don't. The little money they do get is spent on staff tips and the principals office instead of using it to buy new computers, textbooks, desks and chairs which they desperately need.

The toilets are disgusting. They are never cleaned and a lot of students use them so they can vape. The locks on the doors are easily unlock able. For example if you had a 2p coin you could twist the lock and unlock it in around 10 seconds.

In conclusion this school is awful. I have only mentioned a few things which I wanted to explain but i'm sure there are more issues. If I can think of any i'd be sure to update. Do NOT send your children here, they will only be miserable and depressed. I am honestly surprised that this place hasn't been shut down by Ofsted yet.

AVOID.

Incompetence plagues the upper echelon of staff at TCS, then pure insolence from those who fall behind.

Lessons aren't taught adequately, and are always hindered by students who consistently cause a string of pathetic issues that go unnoticed, ignored or poorly punished - going outside for ten minutes is not a punishment and moreso a luxury for those who never fail to show disrespect.

There is no proper punishment system in placed, besides the repeatedly rebranded RTL/VFT/WMRE system. Those are the only three acronyms I'm aware of, yet I know theres more - all of these follow the same system, with the implication on a stricter approach, yet there is no real change, but a façade. Whether or not the Upper staff are aware of how ineffective these systems are and how they're not really punishments (as there is never an end to the stream of chat or acts of disrespect), they are definitely not aware of how ineffective their schooling system is.

The teachers are rude, inept, and in a desperate need of something in their life to make them feel loved, as they clearly don't have that right now. Not just that, several have been in sexual controversies.

Students are subjects of the teachers and the school - their behavior, their actions (including the consistent smoking, sex, fights, and dealing) and so forth is a result of their failures.

The school site itself is a mess and left unkempt.

Budget-wise, they claim to be fine, yet its well known by now the school is suffering and Teachers are having to buy resources for their own classes and so forth, but are also well-off enough to buy computers. Resources in general are lacking.

Toilets are a mess, and you'll often find students vaping in them. Practically every room has had to have cameras installed due to the constant behavior of students being lackful.

To conclude, avoid this school - several students have been either traumatised, developed mental health issues, lost teeth, had stitches, developed a criminal record, been sexually harassed, fallen down the lower half of the behaviour spectrum, and so forth.

Avoid.

Oh, and not to mention, the food is mouldy, cold and raw with constant hairs and, at several points, spiders in the food.

⚠️PLEASE DO NEVER SEND YOUR KIDS HERE⚠️

This school is absolute bullshit compared to any sort of education the majority of teachers there really do not care about any of the students and the very slim number (about 3/4 depending) are useless in the eyes of the school as a whole and if they where to do the slightest thing wrong they would probably be fired for it compared to teachers taking pictures up people's skirts and teachers even admitting to "liking kids" staying there for years even with several reports of them. The behaviour system is absolutely shit aswell constant homophobia, transphobia, racism, ect. It's horrible and gives many students severe social anxiety and similar things with the way they treat incidents and bullying like this. ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️PLEASE DO NEVER SEND YOUR KIDS HERE⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Lack of punishment

Could have been worse. However, overall it is a terrible experience. The teachers are incompetent at properly chastising students, or chastise students for no reason. One specific example I remember is when I sat in a different seat than usual (there was no seating plan, and that was mentioned multiple times over many weeks) and in retaliation two boys sat next to me and said "I'm gonna rape you!" Repeatedly, and CONSTANTLY for the entire hour. About 45 minutes in I had finally had enough and I had a go at one of them. They laughed it off and the teacher told me off, at the same time as admitting she had heard what they'd been saying the other lesson. As a survivor of sexual abuse, and just in general this is completely and utterly unacceptable.

Scammy waste

absolute shit hole
send your kids here if you want them traumatized, it's as bad as all these reviews say. No communication from teachers whatsoever.

Me and some other students found some unsecured documents during term time, and found some documents outlining the budget with money received to help disadvantaged students.
You can find these still with a little searching.

Most of the money went to the support staff in the form of bonuses. As a disabled ex student these staff did almost nothing to support any of the students they needed to.

Anonymous review

Being a student who has been in the school for almost 4 years I can most defiantly say that the reviews on here are generous. One of the two MOST disgusting things about this school is the amount of paedophilic teachers in the school. Some by now have been fired or even left but there are still some that work there. Looking under girls skirts, brushing past and touching them. * ** ******* even once said he "likes teaching the girls especially as they get older" and then proceeded to make us do squats and planks etc. The second most disgusting thing is the amount of homophobia and racism in the school from students to other students going to extreme rates to even death threats and physical abuse. What's even worse is teachers reactions- if there is any at all. Nothing is ever done to punish homophobia, racism, bullying and any other type of abuse. In the whole school there is probably about 3 or 4 teachers (if that) you feel you can actually talk to. Canteen food is unhygienic and oily. They say the "do not have enough money to cater for the needs of vegetarians and vegans" to the point that the only options for them is a cheese sandwich or a water salad; yet they have enough money to buy new computers that will just get ruined by irresponsible students and do up the principles office all fancy. A friend of mine once found a dead spider stuck to the bottom of her pizza, yet the dinner ladies told us that we "purposely put it there". Another was like 10p off buying a bottle of water in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees celsius in the middle of july and the dinner ladies would not sell it to them (the water fountains not working due to covid-19). Another denied entry to SIT IN THE CANTEEN AND BUY FOOD because of coloured laces in his shoes. A student was actually denied food because of a pair of coloured laces. The nurses are hardly qualified. Got concussion? You get an ice pack half the size of your palm wrapped in a piece of toilet roll. Dislocated fingers? You can wait until the end of the day to tell your parents and go to the hospital. I wish I was exaggerating. The toilets are disgusting and dirty. The soap dispensers are nearly always empty - same with the toilet roll holders - you can easily pick the bathroom locks with a single coin in the lock and a twist. Other students disrupt classes to the point that you cant even hear yourself think, let alone learn. Why? Because the behaviour system is terrible and there are no punishments for what you do. You get sent out the class for the rest of the lesson, but what's that actually going to do? Please for your sanity do not send your kids or yourself here. You're better off going to a grammar school of some kind.

Exams

I went to this school in hope to do better than I did in my previous school where I got bullied , this school started off good but when it came to tests or exams I was supposed to had help and extra time and when I mentioned about it the teachers ignored me . Most teachers don’t acc listen to there students when there’s a problem when they need help .the food was released in the canteen I’m not surprised if most students got food poisoning. Go to this school at your own risk it started off well until the last few years .

Not good

Honestly the entire school was carried on the shoulders of the English department like there was only one I truly detested but overall it was the best group in the entire school. When I was in year 7 they were absolutely terrible at alleviating the feeling of dread and anxiety I’d get walking through the gates because honestly most of them were clueless and genuinely couldn’t care less. When I was there, issues of homophobia/ racism etc were taken seriously but I’ve heard from new students that it’s slipped way back and has become a terrible environment for LGBT individuals so definitely not somewhere I’d ever send a young person, the canteen food was absolutely repulsive and most of it literally made me want to be sick- I could only eat the salad and even then it had gritty bits of literal dirt in so most days I’d just bring lunch. In my opinion the 2020 GCSE Covid year was dealt with horrifically, even with the unprecedented low standards for being able to ensure fairness it was pretty shocking. There was absolutely no standardisation, the way grades were awarded varied drastically from class to class and teacher to teacher, some were extremely generous and some were just ridiculously unfair. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because there were some great teachers who knew how to actually teach their subject in a way that was engaging and interesting but as a whole there was a lack of consistency.

TCS SECONDARY REVIEW

I just finished year 11 so I can give you a list on how I was treated there and the public there.

1. The teachers made the year 11s exams easy to make their job look good. This angered alot of people

2. I came across several racist, sexist, homophobic kids. There even used to be a racist teacher there, she doesn't work at the school anymore though so I'm just gonna go with the fact that she probably got fired.

3. The nurses do not care if you have asthma or conjunctivitis (conjunctivitis is something that causes your eye to go red which means that you need to stay home) and if you don't feel well, they will give you an ice pack wrapped in toilet paper and the smallest plastic cup of water. One time, I had to take eye drops from the tray and the nurses were taking too long for them to come so I took it myself and they said that I couldn't just "help myself". Okay, but why? Do not listen to the nurses who aren't even qualified to be one because let's face it, they are all in for money.

4. Literally everyone stares at you for some reason. I just wanted to put that in because it bothers me.

5. Teachers who get offended by the word "gay" need to grow up. I got isolated for a day for saying that word which I didn't even use in a bad way. I support the entire LGBTQ community and the teacher who sent me out either was homophobic herself or was still living in 2004.

It's not a full list but I guess it's just a rant on the school. Do not ever think about going to this school or you will be treated like you were nothing to anyone. I've never wanted to hurt myself so bad when going there, luckily I don't need to get help anymore now that I left. I'm completely serious about everything that I said so take this with a grain of salt and DO NOT GO TO THIS SHITHOLE.

An Average school

It’s Okay, but I’d recommend a grammar school. Teignmouth school is average, lots of classes are disruptive although the facility’s of the school are quite good. Teachings okay depending on which subject
