the ecclesbourne school

This school is not only sexist towards the girls but also shows signs of misogyny, bullying and offensive language towards pupils mainly girls. The teachers do not care for the pupils mental health or well being at all, this is a disgrace. The school only achieves good results and grades because the parents of children can afford tutors for them.

My experience

Only good thing about the school is the teachers
Other than that you get 0 support from anyone, bullying is heavily tolerated, you will be blamed for people bullying you. Even racism is heavenly tolerated, normally letting people off with a sorry letter were as most schools would kick you out.
They only care about there grade average at ecclesbourne and that’s why it’s dropping, they fail to realise without showing kids any empathy or respect they’re not gonna get the best out of kids, even the sixthform is just the same with everything, treating 18 year olds like 12 year olds
If you do sports or music at the school, the school will love you, other than that you’re irrelevant to them.
I’m just lucky to have such a supportive family that helped me get through horrible things through school which the teachers never would help.

GCSE Student

Ex Student

I joined The Ecclesbourne School at age 11 midway through year 7 and stayed until finishing my GCSE’s. My first day at Ecclesbourne was memorable as I walked into my classroom where I was instantly laughed at due to the fact my teacher had already made remarks about me before I had ever walked in. I then spent my first day sat alone whilst things where thrown at me, the teacher found this hilarious and did nothing to stop it. Throughout my time there I was bullied, belittled and then punished after someone who bullied me accused me of being mean to him. This happened in front of a teacher when I swore at him after he pulled my hair and spat at me. The teacher then punished me for swearing at him after watching me be assaulted. I later learned his mother was a school governor. In my final year of school I was physically grabbed around the throat by a geography teacher and thrown against a wall after he caught me eating in class. When I reported this I was called a liar (even though multiple teachers witnessed this) and told if I continued to lie I wouldn’t be allowed to sit my GCSE exams.
Most teachers at the school think they are untouchable and are protected when they verbally, mentally, physically and even sexually harassed students.
Since leaving I have know people work the school who have left due to the toxic attitude, for instance a male student raped a female student, this male student has been protected as his mother is a teacher.
There is a huge drug problem in the school with students taking cocaine in the toilets and it being hushed up when discovered. The school needs a complete leadership overhaul, a thorough police explanation and a complete retrain of all staff members.

Prior student at ecclesbourne

The last thing said to me about after great A level results was that I’d be a loser like my brother and I wasn’t clever enough to be a nurse. I regret not doing it every day.
Think they’re special, in fact, not at all.

nasty attitude of head kitchen staff

The women who run the kitchen, are a vile couple of creatures they are supposed to have a policy in bullying for pupils but have bugger all in place for some staff especially in the kitchen.i certainly wouldn't recommend a job there . treating people like dirt and dirty tactics to trip people up .

Toxic

I was a student at Ecclesbourne School from year 7 until year 11 and there are many things I could say about that place.

I’ll start with the good points, sadly there aren’t many, however there were a select few members of staff (who have let now) that made my school years bearable.

And now on to the bad…. If you need any form of individual support- you won’t get it, if you’re being bullied- you’ll be blamed for attention seeking or being manipulative. I received an Autism diagnosis during my time there, however my Autism doesn’t affect me to the extent where I needed ‘specialist’ education (I’m 28 years old now and live in my own home, have a full time job and function as much as anyone else). They made no attempt to make accommodations for my disability, I was bullied persistently throughout my time there resulting in me developing self harming behaviours and even attempting suicide. These issues still affect me to this day.

If you’re not good at sports, music or acting then you have no value to the school. If you are good at those things you’ll be paraded in front of everyone like some sort of prize pig.

The school is for white, middle class academic students. They make a big deal about being accepting of all races and cultures, but if you don’t fit into their Arian-esque ideology then you’ll be suspended, punished.

It’s not just me that experienced this, a close friend of mine ended up in hospital after attempting to take her own life because of the bullying she experienced at school.

It’s a toxic place, if I could go back to school age knowing what I know now, I’d do anything to avoid going there.

Great for grades, but not for the rest.

Ecclesbourne is excellent in terms of grades, and it's likely that you will receive a lot of support and encouragement regarding work.
The school environment as a whole though, was dreadful. Their reputation is the only thing they care about, to the extent where they had 3 known paedophilic teachers in just a few years; not only that, but they KNEW the teachers were being inappropriate with students, and let them off with a 'warning' until they had no other option. They don't care about bullying or student mental health, and my personal experience there directly caused me to have a mental breakdown and develop 4 mental illnesses that were otherwise 100% preventable (other students have also felt similarly in this regard), as well as an ED due to the bullying I faced. The break/lunchtimes are inadequate, and 80% of that time is spent in queues. Teachers will flat-out lie about opportunities if they don't like you, and some staff members in particular tend to oversexualise a lot of female students, blaming them for their clothes (despite having a uniform) while ignoring the ways other students harass us.
If you want good grades then yes, this school looks good in your future. But it is not worth the drawbacks, and I highly recomend another school if you want to be happy. I know this is a pretty scathing review, but what can I say - if they want a better one then they desperately need to work on themselves and their policies more.
