Torrbridge concerns for students

A various amount of great teachers, miss mellors was very unprofessional, always giving boy students hard times ,rather than helping with support, she would want them in behaviour centres so she dident have to deal with it ,I feel she could have dealt with things better with all students, rather than making out they have adhd putting labels on children so she dident have to support them any further, hope things will change in future for the students.

A terrible school

Do not at all attempt to tackle bullying and don’t listen to the concerns and reports about sexual offences occurring from students in the school. Both staff and students need serious education on social topics such as ableism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny and mental illness.

review from another student

torbridge high is a horrible hypocritical school. they have recently added new rules to uniform making lots of girls uncomfortable and self concious about their bodys because of the no stretchy skirts rule that make girls wear non stretchy skirts that have a big slit in the back making girls uncomfortable and having to pull their skirt down every few seconds. ( while not doing anything about boys uniform , also reasoning saying it distracts boys and even male teachers , which is disgusting because theyre implying girls should dress a certain way because their TEACHER is attracted to them if they do so ). they also make you walk through one gate with all the other years while the teachers stand there looking you up and down to see if your uniform is correct like its some PRISON. then they added the fact you go to somewhere called RESET for the whole day ( and take your phone so if they keep you afterschool you cant tell your parents where you are ). further more, they talk about anti bullying and racist behavior and helping students with mental health but do nothing about it, even sometimes punishing the victim for fighting back. do not go here, this school is honestly the worst place you can go to.

tbh hypocrisy

This school is EXTREMELY hypocritical. recently they have implied new rules and have become so much more strict, they make every student go through one gate basically one by one whilst the teachers stare and check out to make sure the students “don’t have stretchy skirts” or “don’t have their blazers on”, they are so much more strict on the girls than boys as with the boys they’ll only ask for blazers and for tops to be tucked in and even then they rarely ever check. but with the girls they now make the girls go into a hall if they’re caught wearing a stretchy skirt and force them to change in a drama room and take their old skirts into some plastic bag. with the girls they also comment on their earrings and light makeup or anything at all and scold them for it and force them to take it off. they give skirts which have slits in the back and which also do not fit on the waist properly and are overall extremely uncomfortable. why force girls to wear something they’re not comfortable with when they preach about being expressive and comfortable? following on, by humiliating them and forcing them to change, they are invalidating girls safe spaces and making them self conscious and uncomfortable. this school PREACHES about mental health and helping women but do ridiculous stuff like this. they did not even send any sort of emails to any parents about these “rules” or anything. there have already been many girls expressing how uncomfortable they are with this and but the school has not done anything. instead of focusing on helping students with themselves and helping them academically they have decided to WORSEN everything.

bullying!!

This school has failed my son and many others, the bullying level is unbelievably high, and when confronted the heads simply brush it under the carpet!
their attitude towards the grossly upsetting accounts of pupils having no other option but to leave as they cant face the daily torment and the constant harassment of piers with again the school doing nothing to prevent it other than pretend it isn't happening . I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone , i truly believe it would benefit all if the gates simply closed for good.

If you want good mental health don’t go here

Over the past few years I was at this school, the quality just kept getting worse. Many years ago you could listen to music in class, had a small amount of homework and lessons were laid back. Now, they use all these big boy words like “Deliberate Practice” and “Low Stakes Test” to try and sound like they’re doing more when actually it causes less work to be done. They always teach us about quality not quantity, yet they hypocritically overwork us with low quality work and barely listen to the students. Mental health didn’t matter to them, they never helped me and I stood up for my friend who was being bullied and I GOT TOLD OFF. What a joke.

Terrible school

I left this school a like a year and a half ago. I joined the school all happy and then left the school five years later with both anxiety and depression. Everytime I had a breakdown, a few teachers basically told me I was overreacting. I only had a few good teachers at the school.

The school cares too much about what your appearance is than bullying and or making sure that student's mental health is okay.

I had a incident with a friend which lead to me self harming and one of the SAFEGUARDING team basically told me I had overreacted. She said "Oh but I wouldnt have harmed myself over a arguement with a friend." Which did not make me feel any better. So glad I left that school.

Some great teachers. heads? Not so much.

Been a few years since I left that school and I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone (especially now). From what I've heard now, the amount of homework the students are given is beyond ridiculous, I know people who are stressed to the point of depression and are unwilling to speak out because of the schools abysmal mental health services. Not enough is being done and whoever currently runs it has not a clue what they are doing. (I'm basing my review on my experiences and the experiences of current students) the worst thing for me personally is how they deal with students who struggle with mental health and self harm. This is some actual advice given from a HEAD teacher at the school to a student who self harmed. "if you are going to do it, at least clean the wound". And that was it. Their personal issues were then completely dismissed by the school, and it was never brought up again. The head teachers should be ashamed of themselves. The only good things I recall were some specific teachers were incredibly motivating and helped tremendously when I had been struggling with work. I guess a school has to have SOME good staff eh? Going back to the homework situation, while I attended we were given maybe 2-3-4 bits of homework given a week deadline. Now I hear (and know)they are giving multiple pieces everyday and requiring them to be done by the following day. There are statistics that prove that homework does more harm than good, but it's all worth it for a good Ofsted report right? Furthermore during my first 3 years attending I was bullied relatively badly and the school genuinely refused to do anything about it, on one occasion refusing to check CCTV after a reported attack on another student (yeah they got away with it too) Other than all of that, the layout and architecture of the school is honestly pretty good and a shout out for the dinner ladies who got along with the students better than half the teachers, plus the canteen food was very nice too. There was also a good collection of clubs to join and a more than adequate amount of leisure activities during break and lunch, which still does not justify how bad the rest of it is. Definitely would not recommend seeing as I only hear it's gotten WORSE since I left. Not a good school, untill someone else takes over and fixes the HW situation and mental health services along with the handling of bullying, I would not recommend

terrible!!

terrible! they don’t actually care about the students, just the grades. they expect you to do all of the schoolwork and then also 1hr (y7&8) and 1hr30mins (y9,10,11) doing homework each night which results in detentions if not done. valid reasons for not getting work or homework done are not accepted and teachers care more about badly behaved students. they also claim to have a no bullying policy but don’t deal with bullying when it occurs.

Very disappointing

You can learn and get good grades but you have to do ALL of the work yourself, the school and teachers only care about you if you are a “problem child” or have “problems” like anger issues etc, and they also expect their older years to do up to 10+ hours of school work a day, which clearly is not good at all for 15/16 year old kids. they also only care about the perception of what the school looks like to get more kids in every year.
