School is a prison

I Get told to grow up for needing a wee.
When I want to go home because I feel sick I text my mum instead of going to the office because the office always says go get a note but like no I’m about to vomit so I text my mum. Schools doesn’t actually care about you they just want the attendance because if the kids aren’t in they don’t get paid.I actually hate this school don’t bring your kid here or any other school let them live because here right now is a prison not allowed to talk, get up, yous the toilet, not allowed phones out at brake or lunch. The uniform is even worse. It made so if it’s hot it makes you even hotter but if is could IT BRINGS NO WORMTH AT ALL LIKE HOW DID THEY DO THAT and they only made a uniform so the poor kids don’t feel bad for themselves but who actually cares.I just at least let us be comfortable at the prison because at the end of the day all I want to do is get my trust fund erm money and buy a van and travel Thailand. This review is for most schools.(plus the uniform is sexist because it’s more money for a skirt then pants when they’re literally the same.)

Opinion of the school

I was at unity for quite a few years, due to this is gained quite w strong bond with many of the staff at the school. They were always supportive and knew how to help when I needed it. My favorite teachers were the music teacher (Jess Stones) and piano teacher (Emma Harper)

Not great

I had a bit so great experience with this school people would be fighting, the teachers would hardly be able to teach due to class disruptions I literally got a certificate for writing the date and it was not great I ended up being homeschooled.

Teacher’s inside view on Unity Academy

The school is very sub-standard in their attitude towards everything. Especially towards their secondary school students. Pupils are put under constant, overwhelming pressure to succeed, even if that costs them their mental health and well-being. Even with that, staff only prioritise the top of the top and leave all other students to struggle by themselves, only giving rough guide lines which are no where near appropriate to be able to succeed.

The indoor and outdoor environment for students is (due to COVID-19) currently awful. Especially with higher years, Year 10 and 11, their only work space is a single corridor. Year 11s biggest class is and will be for the foreseeable future, working in the smallest classroom available. A class of approximately 30 students being made to study in a classroom that is no where near appropriate for social distancing is despicable. Although it was promised by staff that pupils would be safe and kept in their own year group “bubbles”, students from different year groups are constantly mixing, raising the need of self-isolation for staff and students alike, and risking Covid transmission rates.

A staffs inside view on Unity Academy Blackpol.

some good teachers, flawed and biased behavioural team. child attacked another student recently after a mental breakdown due to over a year of trans phobic bullying directed at them by another student . other members of staff were informed of these reports before the main incident and sadly they didnt bother filing anything, then on top of that let the bully back into school but as far as we're aware the assaulte is permanently gone which is unjust. Besides this incident the school itself is lazy (including my fellow staff), emails are frequently sent to me and others telling us to penalise certain students as the behavioural team cannot be bothered to properly deal with them. The overall teaching quality is mediocre with the exception of a handful of other teachers, the school rooms and corridors itself are substandard , often falling apart but just painted over . The food can only be described as something youd find in a pig sty , often the warm food ,such as pizzas etc. , are warmed up each day until they're eaten , for 3 days. There have also been many complaints of hairs in food . Bullying is barely dealt with and if it is , its nearly always biast. A fellow member of staff in the school has had several reports of minor abuse to the students (verbally and slamming doors on them as well as throwing rubbers etc.) , there is even a video of the member calling a student a homophobic slur for coming in a skirt (the student was being serious about wanting to wear a skirt due to them considering a transition).Corridors , classrooms and the outside yards are currently unsafe due to poor covid planning , corridors are packed , bubbles are mixing, the year 11 students are the largest year group and are left to reside in the smallest canteen near the primary students and their only outdoor option being a concrete turning circle for the staff to park their cars. Theres been several incidents where staff have been out with eachother and have decided to look at students social media to mock them, on a few occasions they've then seen something about themselves and made a false anonymous report from a "student" just so they get their own form of revenge , in a way. Students on another few occasions have also received friend requests or have sent them to teachers and have been accepted . Students have also made reports of walking into classrooms for extra work at break/lunch etc. and seen members of staff conducting in inappropriate behaviour (as a member of staff nearly all of these claims have been made against staff who were in a relationship at the time of the incidents) .Overall I do not agree with most of the school , majority of students are quiet , but the loudest and worst ones are protected by an unjust team and the ones that are loud but creditable students are penalised. They need to be looked into ASAP.
