School from hell

This school has many flaws indeed which start at the top down, when the head or staff are at fault and have neglected their duty of care to students they retaliate and never hold their hands up or resolve ongoing issues, they all back each other up and deflect responsibility onto you and there is always an excuse or you yourself must have got it wrong they use manipulation and tactics to cover their wrongdoing. I have found the head to be extremely arrogant, ignorant and only interested in image of the school, the students are secondary. Measures are in place for detentions yet a lot of the time they are unfairly given. They are now an academy so have more power to make their own policies and more freedom which are not for the good, and think the power has gone to their head. You wont get any understanding or empathy or any apology from this place if you find yourself needing to sort something out. Homework is over the top when you put all the subjects together it all adds up and students are penalized for not doing or not completing it even if someone has died or your ill. If you send message it is not answered even if what you have sent is important / urgent. However, if they want something of you or student got detention that's on synergy straight away, yet they say they don't have time to answer messages. There are no reviews offered for SEN, it all looks good on paper but it's not accurate and nobody follows it . After school clubs don't inform you if it's been cancelled. Nothing is done about bullying when reported, your told it's not bullying and students have been spoken to but no consequences ever given, the bullying continues it's not a safe environment in those circumstances and student don't feel safe and know their self it won't be stopped. You would literally have to get a solicitor for this school to take notice. The tutors assume and shout at students there is no respect and dish out detentions for hardly anything which doesn't teach them anything in life and causes resentment . My advise to any parent thinking of bringing your son / daughter to this school don't do it, save yourself the years of hell, there are much better run schools who put the students first and operate as they should do with happy students.

Not recommended Toxic

I would not recommend. Bullying is not addressed and allowed to continue, bullys are empowered, safeguarding is not addressed or reported by them. SEND isn't implemented you have to resort to external.help SENDIASS to get very basic requests put in place, SENCO unsupportive and dismissive.. They have an ADHD Friendly School Award which is laughable as they don't uphold its values , it's misleading to all parents of a child with SEND. In reality what they tell you in open evenings doesn't exist. Rewards are not given even though they boast about how important they are for motivation etc, your child will never see them for their efforts. Any complaints never get addressed or resolved, you would be lucky to ever get a response, if you do it will not change as they don't consider your point it's dismissed. Policies, they don't follow their own policies and they are not inclusive of SEND they don't alter a thing your child will be held to the same expectation as a typical child. Tutors shouting at students and they do have their favourites punitive measures will be given to one but not the favourite for same poor behaviour. There are a lot of punitive measures, detentions at breaks or lunch, full day isolation, reflection walk after school and they are tunnel vision given out, for breathing out of sync, no considerations from SEND behaviour directly linked to conditions, no underlying mitigating circumstances is considered and student never asked or allowed to give their version of events. If your child gets an isolation, which was probably given unfairly in the first place, they are then punished twice and can't attend reward trips or holidays and you won't get your money back. The Headmaster has many failings and is full of himself, shouldn't be in the position he is in and leads creating a toxic culture. There is no care for mental health or anything else all this school are bothered about is reputation and trying to stay under the radar of triggering the LA or Ofstead . Pupils health will be secondary to their false image and keeping up appearances and reputation. There is no empathy, care or consideration. All this school will bring you and your child is stress and harm. From the head down most of tutors follow this toxic culture he has created you will find you won't get a decent , reasonable human who will respond to you or your concerns they all ignore and dismiss it's a big eye opener and all this shouldn't be any student or parent experience of school, it's far from Dedicated to Excellence what they hide behind . Staff also contradict their selves and tell lies . It's unbelievable and leadership needs changing amongst many other things.

EXTREMELY POOR SCHOOL

The reception staff in this school are vile, extremely condescending and totally unhelpful. The teaching staff are atrocious and do not listen to families. All in all this school is very very poor

Terrible school for neurodivergent kids

I definitely wouldn’t recommend this school, especially for parents with autistic/neurodivergent children. It’s a horrible place and I have had so many bad experiences at this school as an autistic girl with anxiety.

While they claim to be, the SEN Department are unprofessional and unhelpful. It felt as if they cared about my attendance/going to lesson rather than my mental and physical wellbeing. I felt as if they were forcing my autism out of me, by trying to make me fit in with everyone else and disguising it as ‘resilience’, when it was making me ill. I suffer from bowel issues, which flare up due to stress. So, the constant pressure of me being pigeonholed had a massive impact on me. It wasn’t just Up Holland that caused it, it’s the whole school system that did this. Up Holland just made it worse. They also don’t pre-warn me about sudden changes, which is something I really struggle with and can set me back to square one if I’m making progress.

SLT is poor too. They seem to care more about whether your skirt is rolled up more than the mental wellbeing of their pupils. Like the SEN Department, they use ‘resilience’ as an excuse to make me mask my autism. It’s not just for kids with special needs too. Kids get in trouble and blamed for the smallest issues, no matter if they’re neurodivergent or not.

While I have had bad experiences at school, I feel as if the education part is decent. However, it’s hit and miss whether you’re going to get a good teacher or not. From my viewpoint , some lessons are enjoyable and go quickly if you have a sound teacher. But, if not, it’ll put you off the subject in general.

Overall, this school is a bad place for children with SEN and I would highly recommend not sending them here.

This is like hell

Well firstly the teachers are bad you can't even use a single word of humor otherwise you're in a lunchtime detention. Pastoral doesn't give a sh#T about how ur mental health is. The PE facility is all full of themselves thinking that they are the main part of the school. The only part of the school I like is a new teacher in pe Im never chosen to be with a partner but he is always there for me making me smile every pe lesson making the school life less misserable. Most teachers don't even explain the work we are doing and how to do it even if ur confused about a question all they can say is c1 c2 and all of that. Classrooms are rancid like in geography there's green plants poking out a wall from the outside. History teachers are the worst constantly pointing you out and when u get summin wrong they say it very mean sometimes making tears coming out me eyes cos I'm not friends with a lot of people and I'm a deeply depressed person. Bullying is to another level can't go in a single day without worrying of someone shoving me or pushing me. Everyday I walk in and get screamed at from my form teacher most of the time. The RS block is the most serious thing sweat down my teacher is out for me always screaming at people. A few people in maths are nice but not all of them Im very intelligent in maths and my teacher always makes me feel happy and praised. Overall don't put ur child in this school I regretted coming to the school the first 6 months through this school will js make ur child's mental health decline and turn out to be a depressed person living on the dole.

Ok school but don't expect miracles

It is your average comprehensive school with good bits and bad bits. Don't expect anything excellent or out the ordinary. The teachers are mostly good except a few discriminatory ones. The pastoral team is terrible they do not care about anything other than themselves there is genuinely no point them being there. The headteacher is the worst thing about this school he has the communication skills of a child. He is very full of himself! However the SEND team are wonderful 😊! The overall school is very small meaning there are limited opportunities and students have limited choices at GCSE also. The school buildings are very old, grotty and in my opinion unsuitable. There is probably the same chance you will get bullied as at any other school BUT it is not dealt with at all unless the parents are very determined.

Good school in my oppinion

It's a brilliant school. The teachers are nice but a lot of gum is under the tables which the staff should be cleaning but other than that it's sound

Don't do it.

This is not a school it's correctional centre for students to get bullied the whole school is a joke, piss poor education backed up by piss poor Pastoral. If you have decided to send your kid here you have made a big mistake.
The head of this school would be better taking a job in a prison.
I can honestly say that the last five years of having a child at this school has been hell.

Ok for education, TERRIBLE FOR MENTAL HEALTH!

The teachers believe that they have a lot of power and do not give children a say in anything. One time I was getting bullied and the teachers gave them a small detention but taht made it worse so my mum called the school and they said ‘I’m sorry we have done evrything we could’ like what!? I am suffering mild depression right now and I hate going to school not because I don’t like learning because I’m scared of what kind of ppl are going to bully me today whether it’s name calling or pushing and shoving

Algebra? Don't make me laugh

I saw a supposed maths teacher who could not recognise that 4a+a = 5a. I'm not joking!!!

Also, when it came to simplifying a - x/2 she came up with(a-x)/2.

When challenged she said 'I'm just trying to teach them to divide by 2. Absolutely unbelieveable!!!

this school is a shit hole they don’t care about you at all. the food is shocking and if your vegetarian you get little to no food, the pastoral/slt don’t do f all except scream and shout all day long. they search people on a daily with no reason, they put you in iso for nothing and they don’t care about you at all.

👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

This school is horrible, The SLT team do not support you they just tell you too take your makeup/jewellery off, if you refuse you get iso. they say that they will help your mental health but just make it 10x worse, all the food is cold, No food for vegetarians and all the chicken is pink. You get regular homework everyday and are expected too do every single peice of it. Only go for lunch at 1:30 which is unfair too me.

idk lol

should be 0 stars teachers treat students like sh1t, shout left right an centre, don't care about students wellbeing, many creepy teachers, if a student does the slightest thing that barely goes against rules they get harassed by teachers who think they have power but are just pe teachers, accuse students of taking drugs in the back of classrooms, the student never has a say, teachers have favourites in bullying situations, this school made me have panic attacks daily and worsened my mental health, made me show proof i was on medication for depression an when i shown it i got told i was lying, won't even get started on my form teacher or we will be here all day

And theirs cams/cctv in the bathrooms. It’s disgusting. The teachers can check them from the classroom pc aswell
Am sorry if this stuff is wrong just personal opinions

Pastoral

The teachers are fine, but this school knows nothing about supporting young people mentally in all possible situations. You can get better help from a bottle of voddy than the pastoral team at this school.
