Worst experience

First of all, id like to say that the Ofsted "Outstanding" means absolutely nothing when youre talking about the pupils actual experience. As a former student who never got any negative points, didnt recieve any detentions, rarely got told off and handed in all my work to a high standard and on time, i think i have the means to be able to produce an honest review.

As a girl, i obviously wore makeup. I had shaved my eyebrows too thin at one point and filled them in. I had some spots that i wanted to cover and I enjoyed a little bit of eyeliner. So, as any teenage girl would, i wore makeup to school (nothing over the top keep in mind, just somewhat alternative), and everyday i would get absolutely bollocked for it and forced to scrub it off in the bathrooms which was not only humiliating but also unfair as i was getting pulled up everyday infront of girls wearing the same amount- if not MORE makeup than me and lashes. The only reason i can think of this unfair prejudice is that i was seen as a easy target as i was quieter and i wore my makeup a bit differently.

Another traumatising experience i had was when i was in year 10. I had been put next to lad in biology who was extremely touchy (you can probably figure out what happened from there), he sent me freaky messages and touched me and poked and prodded me all year. When this came to light to the teachers in year 11, i had to report him. I sat in tears, recalling every instance i could think of where he made me feel uncomfortable and put his hands on me to which the teacher responds:

"Oh i thought it was something bad"

Even in that moment i was shocked that this FEMALE teacher didnt give one shite about the SAFETY of another FEMALE student. She promised me something would be done about it, and as a naïve student, i took her word for it.
Not only did he recieve no consequences, he also kept his prefect title, which he then went onto make a speech for opening day, AND THEN he became a senior prefect. Nothing got done about my safeguarding issue, and infact, the teachers seemed to sympathise with him when what he did was all brought to light.

Another issue i have is the complete disregard of education especially in your gcse years.
-3 of my chemistry teachers left in year 10 (yet i was top set in seperates)
-my geography teacher left at the end of year 10
-my french teacher left at the end of year 10
-my maths teacher admitted to us that she would not teach us the topics at the back end of any gcse paper even as the actual exam crept closer
Given that my education was disrupted because of this, my personal workload (revision) was unbearable and i ended up having to teach myself the subjects freestyle. But how can i teach myself topics that havent even been mentioned to me at least once before?

Not everything was in shambles though! The creative departments (art, DT, music, drama) were incredible! The best experiences i had in wade deacon were in those departments, however everything else lacked! severely!
Food was alright though!
Dont go this school if you want education instead of constant examining of skirt lengths, makeup and shirt tucks!

DID I GO TO HIGH SCHOOL OR HELL?

Firstly, the staff have no regard for the actual sanity of the students. Going through something tough at home? You get an extra day to do your homework. They care more about the length of school skirts and whether shirts are untucked than the well being of children. Cyber bullying, racial and homophobic comments come second when it comes the to appearance of the school.

Secondly, most teacher obviously favour more popular and outspoken students as opposed to the ones actually trying to get an education out of this hell hole. I understand if they’re struggling and the teachers feel like they need an extra push to help them, but blatantly sitting next to them and doing the work for them because they ‘can’t be bothered.’ Or they, ‘feel sick.’ Whilst not batting an eye is not something I believe you get a teachers qualification for.

Also, as a girl going through my teenage years I wanted to find ways to express myself and be myself-just like how the school boasts on about us doing-so I wore makeup to school. Nothing extravagant, nothing that was so undeniably eye catching that it took the students attention away from learning, just some blush, mascara, highlighter and maybe some eyeliner, if I was feeling frisky. However, the school seemed to be opposed to the ideology of me wanting to have my own identity, that most of the time they would outwardly embarrass me in-front of my classmates by loudly pointing it out, and then forcing me to scrub my face in a bathroom that had girls looking at me funny as they vaped in the cubicles. It not only felt like a humiliation ritual, but it made me feel like I couldn’t look how I wanted to be seen.

Wade Deacon High School would rather children get verbally abused in corridors then let a girl wear nail polish, which is ironic considering the ‘worse off school’ which was right down the road didn’t bat at an at children wearing nail polish or makeup and actually did something when a pupil went to them for help.

On another note, some teachers actually knew what they were doing. Making most classes not only interesting but fun as well, but most teachers wouldn’t even teach us the back page of a paper because they ‘couldn’t be bothered.’ And, ‘didn’t think we were able to do it.’

When it finally rolled around to GCSE period, not only did I lose four of my teachers, but most of them just read off a PowerPoint and didn’t even bother actually teaching us, something by younger sibling could do without a teaching degree. Making me feel vulnerable and unstable whilst sitting the biggest tests of my life at the moment.

All in all, if you want to go Wade Deacon, or you want your child to go. Don’t. It will make them miserable and depressed like it made half of us. In my opinion, give PnP a try, I heard they’re making a lot of great changes towards the school that maybe Wade Deacon should take notes from.

The old pizza was fire though before they changed the menu.

High quality. More attention for students.

It’s a good school, well managed. Uniform policy is too strict and misbehaving students often overshadow the other students. Struggled are dismissed if you’re not misbehaving. Other than that, high quality school, resources and teachers.

wadeVIL deacon

this school is really boring, the staff are rude and dont give a flying monkeys about how you feel. there are only some nice teachers and all the rude ones dont even care about how bad you feel they only care that your not failing which there is more important matters like our mental health. so this school needs some sense smacking into it to really realise how this horrid prison like school system is set up. it is nothing like the open evenings, its like clickbait and a trap. this is one of the most draining schools there is, do not go. it will ruin you.

FOOD IS OKAY THOUGH

5 years of HELL!

Past Wade deacon student here!
I attended Wade Deacon not too long ago; I have to say the experience was nothing like it is perceived on the open evening and website. I have had dozens of awful experiences over the years that I was there, for a start, the French department is awful. The teachers don't care about you and are extremely uncaring, they are very shouty and aren't very approachable, I asked my French teacher when my mock exam was to which he answered 'Before' and I never found out the date until it was too late, I was very close to failing my French exam due to this! over the years I also came to realize that the 'Wade Deacon experience' very much relies on whether you are a favourite or not I had a very awful experience with my head of year which resulted in my having to skip school so that she wouldn't mistreat me, I was treated awfully by them and there were only a few teachers that I could confide in - one of which teaches food tech. For three years I begged my parents to let me change schools and then it was too late by the time they were willing. Unless you hate your children, I beg you not to send them here. Finally, I am a girl and during my time at this school a girl in my year was sexually assaulted, the school's response? To sit him at my lunch table - DANGEROUS!

Horrific school.

Treated my son horrendously, don't get me wrong,he wasn't the best student but the sheer disregard for him,his grades or mental health. I had teachers lie straight to both mine and his face. And I'm not even going to go into what the school accused him of without providing any proof and simply placing blame on him,he was their scapegoat.

Student here
I am a student as of now in 2023 in year 10 my school now is horrendous the rules here a worse than prison itself. I don’t have a problem with any of the pa department they are the best and most outstanding department there is but due to lack of funding many things are not what it is. They say they will stop bullying they never have and never will the mentors give next to nothing advice apart from 1 but I can’t name names . My form tutors give the worst example and they are hypocrites. My science teacher chemistry is so homophobic to a pupil in my class he hates it in there and he reported to him that there was a substance in the bathroom and he got shouted at and sent out now how pathetic is that. This is the worst school in the district they only care about how they look on the outside but on the inside students are off timetable for a peircing they said to me what happens if I get punched or pushed they are saying the school is unsafe . I know many students who are mentally ill and they just say to them stop being silly . Teachers can be late to class by 20 mins but when a student is 30 seconds late it’s a half an hour detention this is the worst school and thought it would be better these rules should change

Wade deacon is poop

Im a year 10 student at wade deacon high school widnes and am just here to say that wade deacon says they control bullying when they do the opposite and they actually don’t care about anybodys mental health and it’s atrocious on how mean the school teachers are , some people may think that’s good that they are strict but if they be nice then maybe the students would consider to behave

It's Poor

It's bad and good tbh. I'm in yr7 and I had the worst day today at wade deacon. I was in the library today and these three boys were knocking through the glass thing in the back like where the multiple chairs are. They were doing inappropriate signs and it was so uncomfortable. After, Mrs Gallagher told them to go away and they went away. I'm so scared to go back tomorrow to the library.. I go to the library everyday and I don't wanna go there anymore. I don't even wanna go to school?

Teachers are really harsh

They don’t care if you have been hurt by online hate they focus on rolling ur skirt up more than online hate and that? Does it actually make a difference to education if skirts aren’t knee length like?

Secondly,Teachers don’t care if u get loads of homework a week they say just deal with it and on a hot day your not allowed your blazers of like what?

I’m only in my second year and I hate it so much.

However, after school clubs are really good and I have a lot of respect for some teachers but some teachers just over exaggerate stuff.

Trust me they DO NOT care about your mental health, nurses DO NOT care if u feel sick once my friend threw up and gave her a sick bag and went come back and I’ll examine it when you threw up?
Like I ain’t carrying a bag of sick down stairs 🤨

So strict but not in a good way really like PE teachers possibly nicest teachers here.

Gcse

Poor and ignorant

The school is an awful school to be in gerneraly.

Firstly, its an increadably toxic enviroment where if you dont agree with the way they do things you get punished overly harshly, for exampe if someone attacks you both the victim and the agresser would be punished

Secondly the teachers where very harsh and hypocritical for example they will often be late by over 10 minuets whereas if your late by a single minuet you will be punished by missing break or lunch

Thirdly traversing the school itself is a nightmare due to the overcrowded coridoors and staircases,it is not uncommon to see people who have fell being trampled on,this even happened to me

Finaly its the vanity of the school its self they only care about how they are perseved not the students unless they do sports because they bring attention to the school in that case they can get away with almost anything, they say to go to the mentors if you had an issue but they would always be unhelpful and give the same tired responces like bite the bulet

The only redeming quality is that their is several teachers who are honest and open with the students and have a real passion and understanding for what they do

Harmful

This school is run through rose coloured glasses, the staff are (mostly) decent however there are multiple glaring issues that have it be addressed by someone,

Firstly, this school has an abundant bullying issue- one of my close friends was almost bullied to su1c1d3 here and all that happened was it getting shoved under the carpet- the boys (and girls) here get away with anything they could honestly commit a h@te cr1me and still retain admittance to the school, I’ve been called multiple slur5 in a span of days and nothing was done- this school has a ginormous mental health issue too-

The mentors either pretend everything is ok or try and force progress on people, while yes I understand the need for *a mental health department this school I VERY VERY STRONGLY BELIVE requires a serious rerun of its decisions regarding the mental health of its students- I have seen first hand r@cism s3xism and d3@th thr3@ts
The grades of this school, yes are wonderful- however it is unhealthy the way in which the school conducts that learning- and furthermore there is a huge issue with the punishment/reward system in place- it’s almost as if the school actually likes when students are badly behaved as the RISE point system has barely any points go to actual hard working students, while **** over here only attacked two people this year instead of three so he gets a rise point, the staff here are complacent as they are constantly being replaced and revolved throughout the school system, so far I have not had one teacher for over a year and have had no stable education thereof.

This school does not benefit it’s pupils and is in reality a facade to an ineffective, harmful and scarring learning journey to all pupils involved.

This school gave me trust issues

Class of 2020 here.
The school managed to cut down their entire French department down from ~11 teachers to just 3 within the span of a year due to the lack of funding (unsure of where the money was being spent) and that languages was no longer a mandatory subject. I had many issues with the French department as a whole but that story is far too long.
The performing arts department is outstanding but horrendously underfunded. I have nothing bad to say about the history department as it felt like it was the only section of the entire school that made it worth my time showing up. The rest of the school’s departments are quite average overall apart from a few poor experiences with certain teachers.
The ‘RISE’ point system is a sham and doesn’t really do anything for the students except encourage bullying.
The school’s ‘mentors’ didn’t actually help anyone, especially those who had high grades but poor mental health.
Every assembly I had somehow managed to relate itself to sports, which, while beneficial to some students, made students such as myself roll my eyes and zone out.
The school’s close connection with Cronton college means that you are actually forced to apply to Cronton college. There was an incident in which my form group was not allowed to leave the room if they had not filled in an application to the college (I am not exaggerating). Also, the amount of assemblies received from the college is utterly ridiculous.
Once the pandemic began and GCSEs were cancelled, I had about 2 teachers set work for my classes whereas the rest of them simply abandoned us.
The school loses teachers faster than they can hire them (given the fact I did not have a stable French teacher for 6 months in year 11) and doesn’t seem to care about whether students are actually learning - they only care about how good the school looks on paper.
I came to this school because of it’s outstanding reputation, however I found myself entirely disappointed when I arrived and can barely believe that the gates to this school are still open.
