The best school in the area

Amazing school. Great facilities, sports, dance, drama, music, arts science and maths department- all strong and closely knit. The parents and friends association is very hard working and goes the extra mile to help out.

An all rounder school.
Thank you.

just bc it's a grammar school, doesn't mean it's good

Gets an extra star for not being the worst school but it is quite shocking to see the mental state of 98% of the students there is really bad and they put lots of pressure for exams on you then say but don't stress cuz they don't matter and "help" mentally unwell people, while not helping the ones who clearly need the help bc they are the "perfect" student in their eyes. and when you go for help, many have been rejected of proper support bc they "don't seem like they need it"

Bad pastoral care

The school did nothing when I was badly bullied and often I was turned away from the pastoral office because my problems were not ‘as important as others’ even though I was struggling with terrible terrible depression. Students with mental health problems were discussed by teachers behind our backs (overheard on many occasions) and we were not checked up on nearly as often as we should have been. We were made to feel like we did not matter.

Decent Education - Terrible Mental Health Support

My time at the school was relatively poor. Yes, the academics were amazing and the teaching was okay for the most part. The school falls short when it comes to mental health support, as well as racism among students. In my experience, quite a few students made disgustingly racist comments. I would have expected those students to have been given some sort of disciplinary sanction, yet this was far from the case. Far too many times, those who decided to speak up against racism in the school and among peers were penalized by the staff (including some of my own friends) which severely impacted their mental health. The worst sanction that was given to a student (that I recall) was a meeting to “re-educate” them, which was really just two students in a room with a teacher who repeatedly belittled the experience of the victim. Straying away from the topic of racism, mental health at WHSG is horrendous and is handled terribly. Half of the students have issues with eating disorders, self harm, anxiety, depression and many more, all of which are worsened by a large amount of staff. Some of the staff are wonderful, but there are numerous exceptions. Some teachers go out of their way to humiliate students and are horribly strict and rude. On one occasion, I witnessed one of my friends being yelled at for being in the corridor by one of the teachers. My friend struggled (and still struggles) with suicidal thoughts/ tendencies, coupled with anxiety. So when she was yelled at for waiting for her friend to accompany her to (ironically) the pastoral room, which she was not allowed to do by herself because of safe-guarding plans put in place for her by the pastoral team, she had a nervous breakdown. When she had explained to the teacher what her situation was, she was met with a detention. I was absolutely appalled to hear this when she told me and I am just so relieved that I did not have to experience this first-hand.

The buildings themselves are practically crumbling apart and the toilets absolutely reek. Half of said toilets are out of order or are stuffed with food, and the other half are disgusting and filthy. Most of the classrooms do not have adequate heating in the winter, nor do they have adequate ventilation in the summer. I would say that the PE department had the best solutions for these issues, having enough sympathy for their students to allow them to stay inside when it is too cold. The food was normally fine but there were numerous instances in which the students would find hair in their meals. Most of these meals were also quite bad on some days but that is just personal preference.

To conclude, I am grateful for the education that I had received during my time at Wallington High School for Girls, but I am not, however, grateful for the tear-jerking memories of ridicule and humiliation from some of the teachers, as well as mental health issues that I will have for years to come, stemming from my experiences at this school.

Excellent school

Excellent school. Have had no issues so far and I’m in year 8. Generally the teachers are supportive and actually care, great range of clubs and enrichment activities at the end of term. I’m sporty and the sports teachers are great and encourage you to get better.

Don't go if you value your sanity

Student made plantation jokes to their black peer and the school then labelled the black student as a bully and protected the racist. Another student said the n word and is being protected.

Pastoral care is poor at best. 9/10 students have awful mental health, I do not know a single person who isn't depressed. Self harm, eating disorders, suicide attempts, substance abuse, panic attacks, anxiety, personality disorders, mood disorders - you name it they've got it! Students who deal with these things are given little to no support unless their mental health is making their grades drop drastically (even then students are told they need to 'try harder' and that they are 'lazy').

Some of the staff have attitude problems and like to bully 12 year olds for fun just because they're unhappy with their own lives. Staff also gossip about students and share confidential information with each other when and as they please in their offices.

Students made to stand outside at break times even when its raining or 5 degrees outside.

When racists incidents arise students are called to speak to SLT and told not to 'tell anyone' or they'd 'get in serious trouble'. This is a strategy the school uses up to cover up allegations (such as when a drama teacher encouraged a non-black student to say the n word in a drama script). I also know of racism students have experienced from staff.

Students with special educational needs are also patronised and treated as second class citizens.

SLT has removed events such as 'cultural clothes day' and replace them with 'wear red for racism day'.

This is stupid.

They'll discourage students from wearing cultural clothes because wearing red 'makes more of a statement' whilst sweeping countless racism scandals under the rug. Where is the logic?

Everyone here wants to kill themselves. No wonder people are doing balloons in the toilets, smoking cigarettes in the toilets, smoking weed in the toilets, and bringing vodka in waterbottles everyday to preserve their sanity.

ps.the canteen meat looks like dog food.

It's quite bad.

The school only cares about it's reputation and nothing else. They will go to the extreme extents of hiding what's going on in school.

they dont care

they only care about grades and don't give a flying f*ck about students' mental health. I have yet to meet a student who hasn't had experience with any of the following- self harm, substance abuse, panic attacks or any form of mental illness. any student that hasn't has been exposed to it from a young age as a result of its frequency and in many cases has been forced to help others cope, which no child should have too
