In my experience at the school so far it hasn't been the best. The school, academically, are great and the children there are normally very nice. However the pastoral office is horrendous. For example if you report a incident such as bullying, they act like they will take care of it but really they don't. Also one time someone had stolen my bag and I reported it to the pastoral office. 2 days later, still nothing so then i asked my dad to go speak with them. Guess what, they found it straight away. Coincidence? Also they always pretend to care but they don't and you can tell. Also some teachers give out detentions with no reasoning and some are very racist for example, like picking a particularly coloured kid over another. Even though we are good academically, they are not good when it comes to dealing with problems so i wouldn't recommend going to this school.
I believe that my experience at the school was absolutely amazing, I highly recommend this school. It truly was a wonderful experience l. The community was closely knit together. Everyone looked out for each other and there were practically no incidents at my time there other and little squabbles. The teachers tried their best to help us excel and there were lots of opportunities for everything; clubs, sports, competitions, etc... In conclusion, it's just a great school.
I previously wrote a review. In the 2021-2022 school year, a student commited suicide and the best the school could do was PRETEND TO CARE. All they do is PRETEND when a genuine problem occurs. Before, you were turned away if you had a mental illness, the best they did was call your parents. After the suciide, hey hired some non-existent counsellors, but STILL people are turned away if they have a mental illness. Then another student died of illness, and rather than respect him, the school reused the memorial service of the previous student. You are ignored if you report bullying. You don't even know WHEN you can report something because the teachers are busy half or more of the time.
Despite the blatant ignorance displayed by the school, they still have the audacity to preach all these messages and assemblies of being open with mental health and they go around raising money for mental health charities. Not to mention that, racism is EMBEDDED into the school culture. And homophobia, if you are part of the LGBTQ+, you are stereotyped by other students beyond belief, and if you have a disability/disorder/diffability, almost nothing is done to help you, and students will instead take the pleasure to discriminate against your disability and hurl slurs against you. Seuxal assault also goes on in this school, but I am not in the sixth form so haven't heard enough of it to comment. People who bully, assault etc. who perform well are NEVER held responsible for their actions and instead rewarded.
And they still preach all these messages of tolerance, no bullying, and mental health support. All they do is talk and never take action. If you think nothing about you can be discriminated, then of course, attend Westcliff High School for Boys.
Problems like mental health, bullying, racism/sexism, and sexual assault aren't taken seriously.
During the 2022/23 year, there was a suicide, sexuall offenders weren't expelled (one was later rewarded), and during the summer heatwave (when it reached around 40°) it was one of the only schools still requiring full uniform.
At least I passed my GCSEs I guess.
