Wetherby dump

Bullying is rife here and the teachers do nothing about it and what they teach the kids is wrong.. Just a dump really.

Shit school

Wetherby High school is a shit school that can’t sort out problems and bullying promote and support the bullies and blame the victims and blackmail students to come into school or they won’t sort the problems and they never end up doing it! It is a shithole the inclusion people lie about sorting out situations and don’t care about mental health and it’s very dirty with the school basically falling apart and accuses students of stealing…… I AM FUMING WITH THIS SCHOOL.

Kind Regards.

Avoid this school

My daughter attends this school, and ever since she started we've had problems, with bullying, teachers and staff on a daily basis, I can empathise with negative reviews on here, as they're very accurate.
Bullying is rife and is rewarded rather than chastised and punished.
The teachers don't care they encourage bullying and the staff who are supposed to look after your children, don't they are good face to face but once out if sight they are different to and ovoid the giving the slightest bit of care and support.

Headteacher and slt are appalling hide behind closed doors, lie about everything, manipulate what you say to their advantages and to be able to cover up shear incompetence in staff and like to mask the miss conduct of teachers.

They forced our son out in year 10 during lock down, and now doing the same with our autistic daughter who has more complex needs and is now been discriminated and we're being forced to move her, while the teachers there Polish their egos and have stopped all communication. Lied about ehcp and arrogant towards us as parents.

This school breeds and encourages only vicious bullies and has no time for special educational needs children.

I would only recommend this school to masochists

One of my biggest regrets in life was going to this school, i cannot remember a single day i enjoyed in all my time there.

The majority of teachers were terrible and catered to only a few kids in each class, there are only 2-3 i can think of who actually helped me understand the work instead of leaving me alone the whole lesson to figure it out myself. On top of that teachers didn't care what went on in their lessons, you could be smoking crack and they most likely wouldn't look up from their computer.

Another noteworthy mention is the buses, i would rather fight in the trenches than get on one of those buses again, every morning when i saw it pulling up i debated jumping out in front of it just to avoid having to ride on it again, i reckon the Oregon trail had better conditions.

Wetherby is also terrible for bullying, i never once saw those people punished, instead they were rewarded whenever they acted like decent human beings, which still wasn't very often. One of the few things that kept me going in the later years there was knowing that soon i wouldn't have to see these people again.

The only good things i can remember about this school are the handful of competent teachers and the food, which was pretty good.

So, so grateful to have gone here

Moving to sixth form has made me realise how lucky I was to go to Wetherby- I always felt so supported and included in the school community, especially because of drama productions and the house & coaching system. Of course you’re always going to get teachers who aren’t the best, that happens at every single school, but I can say with confidence that pretty much all of my teachers were dedicated, kind and supportive.

I know my experience probably doesn’t account for everyone’s, because I was always a little too invested in house competitions and academics, but I think the coaching system means that really nobody slips through the cracks. It also means that you can receive support from older students when you’re in ks3, and then grow to mentor others when you’re older. This community spirit across year groups is what I’m missing the most now I’m at my new school.

If I had to give some drawbacks, my biggest gripe was staff retention- I had something like ten maths teachers over my five years at wetherby. Some people had a new coach every year, which obviously defeats the object of having a member of staff to guide you through your whole time at the school. Of course, I can’t comment on what that situation is like now, having left. Also on the subject of staff, as a generally high achieving student there were some subjects where I never really felt pushed or challenged. I appreciate that when you’re managing a class of 30+ this isn’t the teacher’s main concern, but I think more could be done in terms of stretch and challenge across the school.

I also felt personally that mental health support left something to be desired. This wasn’t the experience of everyone, as I have friends who received incredible support, but personally I made school aware that I was struggling with disordered eating and it wasn’t ever really addressed. However, I do appreciate that resources for this kind of thing are spread very thin & I know people with more serious needs did get more support, so I don’t hold it against the school.

Overall, I feel that wetherby improved drastically during my time there, and looking back there’s so much I wish i hadn’t taken for granted whilst I was there. I left with 9 grade 9s and one 8, only wishing they could have extended their sixth form capacity to my year group.Wetherby’s greatest strength is its community, and I made friends in every other year group that I’m still in touch with now.

Mostly perfect school !

This school is so much better than my new school. I agree that bullying wasn’t dealt with at all however the food was immaculate, the outdoor spacing was great, the range of options that you could take was smashing and I learnt more in that school in the time I was there than I have learnt in my current school. The safeguarding team were amazing, I used to have a lot of mental health issues and was quite a naughty kid but the safeguarding team (mr flowers I think) saw me once a week as a check in and were always there when I went to see them. I can not thank them enough for everything they helped me with. You guys are great and thank you again. The teachers were the best part about that school, I don’t know if most of them are still there but mr farrah, mr prentice, mr Wilkingson, the art teacher, both of the safe guarding team especially. Thank you for everything that you have done for me and the life lessons I learnt while I was there. Great work guys!!

A fake school

Bullying isnt dealt with, even when it is blatantly happening in front of the teachers. Some teachers when students misbehave just give up and cant seem to punish anyone or give decent discipline. Ofsted was very fake, sending bad students home because they would give the school a bad reputation. They would also stage conversations for when Ofsted came in. If Ofsted came in on a normal day the rating would be a lot lower. By the time you get into the canteen most of the food that you would want would be gone. I'm starting y10 and I have already had 7 maths teachers (will probably be on my eighth when I return) 5 English teachers (most likely 6 when I return) I'm on my fourth coach and I will be on my 5th when the pandemic is over, so there is zero consistency, and I have 2 years left! Once a guy got smacked in the face so hard is teeth got fractured and the teacher just said to the guy who punched him to leave the astro turf and nothing more. A teacher called me a waste of space and time behind my back, for absolutely noo reason, I'm possibly one of the quietest kids in class, and I just get on with my work. The school is hiding behind a facade and it needs to stop.
