Living hell

It’s Living hell. If I had the choice to go to any other school I would. Teachers favour students and sometimes make some girls feel uncomfortable . Teachers are way to strict. I won’t send my future children here.

AVOID THIS SCHOOL

My daughter started at this school last November. From day one she was bullied and assaulted, not just physically but sexually. Today she was shoved to the ground because she was standing up for her friend because he was once again getting picked. Teachers do NOTHING about the bullying. I am getting the police involved and the BBC. This school has made my daughter's mental health suffer so bad that she now has PTSD. The bullies at this school get zero punishment. I am not prepared to let this school carry on acting in such an irresponsible way. Actions are being taken to make sure schools like this are named and shamed. Disgusting school. Do not let your children attend this vile school with vile bullies and teachers that do not give a damn.

Experience of WA

Both my boys had a fantastic experience at Winterbourne Academy. Both my boys started with an average academic grade, and they both finished with A's and A* at A Level.
The extra curricular activities they both did really enhanced their experience and they often talk about them to this day!
I would recommend Winterbourne Academy to anyone.
Thankyou to all the past and present staff, you all do a brilliant job.

Excellent

I am very happy with the support my child receives from the school. The teachers are always on hand to answer any questions or concerns and feel they know my child. It has a lovely community feel and will be sending my next child here when it’s time.

The Worst Part Of My Life

This school is the reason i have been diagnosed with PTSD. It is the worst part of my life and I'm still having to spend so much of my hard earned money on psychiatric help to try and overcome the trauma it gave me.

I attended until 2019, and from the extreme obsession this school has with appearances I'd assumed it would be diligent about education as well. I was incorrect - if you have absolutely any problems that make you struggle to learn you will dropped into foundation, and at that point your chance at learning anymore is gone. There's little to no chance to go back up in classes because the teaching in bottom set is so poor you will never learn even if you're passionate, and the environment is disruptive and violent. I was assaulted physically uncountable times in this place, and never once were my assailants punished, with teachers downplaying my experiences because it was evidently much easier for them than having to grapple with a complicated situation.

It's an incredibly nasty environment for anyone with ANY mental illness, absolutely no consideration and blatant favouritism from teachers, no effort to help anyone struggling. They had an utter fascination with constant rebranding - changing the methods of punishment yearly, changing the names, last i went it was The White House. How is taking an unruly child out to a shed next door and making them sit in silence for hours going to teach them anything? It's all unreasonably cruel and low effort.

The obsession with uniform singularity mentioned in every other review you'll find is correct -It's about the one single thing they even care about. It's ridiculous. How is a child having a red streak of hair going to prevent their education? How does a nose ring matter? Crushing individuality and expression for the sake of a clean uniform look that makes the school look more upright than it really is. Care about appearances more than anything.

Please, for the sake of your mental health, do not attend/make your children attend this school.

Hell On Earth

i have been here for five years this year and i truly and sincerely hope to find peace once i have left, the school is and always has been an abomination. i was bullied for two years with no help or aid after reporting it, i had to adapt and fully change my appearance because no one did anything for me. the teachers are poor at their job and i would be embarrassed to be the one in charge of this establishment. the lack of remorse from head staff is terrifying and i cannot wait to leave. please do not send your children here if you wish them to be of sound mind, the walls and lighting being a bright white makes it seem as though you are walking into a clinical space, not a warm and welcome one, i have never felt at home at this school, they tried to help this by painting the lower half of walls what students have labelled ‘sleep deprived grey’, only sleep deprived since the teachers are so poor at teaching in the actual lesson time that everything is set as homework. the staff have no regards for hidden illness and the safeguarding assemblies are terribly triggering even if you haven’t experienced the trauma shown in them, there is nothing subtle about this school it is blunt and unkind. they demand we act like young adults and treat them with respect, this respect is never reciprocated, there is copious amounts of belittling, they claim they are readying us for the future but no job or work place will be as cruel as this. they insist that our uniform is always exemplary and this is shown with their disregard of our actual education. some students may be unable to wear full uniform one day for whatever reason and the school would rather they took up lesson time to search for their size in the spare uniform cupboard or just get sent home, again affecting their education. there is no expressing yourself at this school, every child looks exactly the same and it is the most boring and robotic notion, it is as though we are simply a name on a register rather than a human being, they claim this is due to hair, nails and jewellery to be distracting when really it is comforting to most to be the**elves and feel accepted , and really the only disruption is when teachers demand that girls take out their jewellery during lessons or take them to get their acrylic nails removed in the school during their lunch or break which is important to those who require breaks whether for anxiety, tiredness or hunger.
it is a war zone in my mind every time i have to wake up to go and their safeguarding team is far from safe, a lady going by ******* is manipulative, rude and highly disrespectful yet everyone who encounters her is too mentally stressed to remember to report her, her mind games are endlessly tiring and her help is none existent.
i cannot wait to leave!

This is the worst place, didn’t have any friends and they never noticed about my mental health because I was a quiet kid and I never showed any emotions

Terrible

I’m a new student at winterbourne and have been there for 4 months. The teachers are incredibly strict about uniform to the point where it becomes obsessive. The teachers do not handle bullying or discriminatory language in the right way. Most teachers are terrible and teach badly. You’ll be lucky if you get good grades. The teachers also are clueless about mental health and tell parents/carers anything, even if they say it’s confidential.

Terrible

Teachers so obsessed with uniform and piercings that they forgot to care about the education going on. Tried to get a girls piercing out with dirty pliers from the technology department and ripped another girls earring out causing her to bleed all down her shirt. Teacher we’re mostly bad and had no clue what was going on. Never addressed any bullying happening on site and never dealt with the situations as you would on the outside world, giving the wrong impression to the students in the wrong.

Alright

Ok so the schools alright. Music is amazing but there’s a lot of chavs. Oh and seagulls. Watch out for the seagulls! Most teachers are strict but there’s still a few nice ones
