Really really good school. Don’t listen to the people who talk it down

This school was slandered as a school for drop outs, unintelligent kids and badly behaved kids when I told my old school I was moving. Not true

Good points
- Most teachers are amazing. They’re amazing teachers but they can also have banter and normal chats with you as long as you respect them. They don’t talk down to you. Without my English teacher and science teacher I wouldn’t have got the grades I did
- They’re nowhere near as strict with minor things as other schools but come down harder on serious things like bullying (which I don’t think I even saw) and real fights
- In my two years I must have went on about 10 or 11 school trips and went on 2 work experience weeks and did a vocational course. They actually give you opportunity to do both fun and useful things
- UTC has an unfair bad rap for taking bad students or students with no ambition because they take in managed moves and students who come for an easy ride. Nearly everyone I met was top class though. It is true that they take more badly behaved students and managed moves in than most schools but if you don’t bother people everyone’s top class
- Engineering workshops are amazing, practical sessions are so fun and the man who teaches them is one of the best people I’ve ever met. Again, great teacher who can also have a laugh with you
- Break times teachers leave you alone to socialise how you want as long as you don’t take the p. At my old school even sixth formers we’re treated like babies
- You get lots of careers guidance
- They care about you in exam time. You get lots of revision time and they check in on your mental health
- They care about you in general. Some of the head of year/pastoral teachers might seem strict and like what you’re used to from head of years at old schools at first but you’ll learn they really care and are actually lovely people. Even the worse and less friendly teachers care massively deep down.
- You’re allowed phones at breaks and to go outside onto the MUGA and play football

Disadvantages
- Like every school there’s the odd worse teacher either because they cant teach as well or are not very nice. Unlike at my old school I find that deep down even they care massively. I never had an entirely ‘bad’ teacher.
- Toilet rules are stupid. Locked in lessons. Tiny toilet block of 8 for breaks (not allowed in engineering ones) for the whole school, having people hang around in them. I think the amount of times I went to the toilet in two years was single numbers. It’s awful
- Schools freezing in winter
- The maths and science departments struggle to keep teachers for some reason and are a bit unstable with teachers. I saw about 10 maths teachers come and go but there was never more than 4 or so at a time. English had the same five teachers for the whole time

Overall if you hate your school and you’re in Y9, or a Y8 in the top few sets I would come here. It’s so much better than the big schools round here. There isn’t many places where you get both a good education and a good time but this is one

Never send your kids here

Complete joke of a school.
Most disorganised place ever, never proofread or spell check anything. Staff have almost as bad attitude as the students
